The St. Lawrence String Quartet has established itself among the world-class chamber ensembles of its generation, with a performing career that spans across North and South America, Europe, and Asia. In addition to performing traditional quartet repertoire, the ensemble—violinists Geoff Nuttall and Scott St. John, violist Lesley Robertson, and cellist Christopher Costanza—is passionately committed to performing and expanding the works of living composers and has worked with many composers including R. Murray Schafer, Osvaldo Golijov, Christos Hatzis, Jonathan Berger, Ka Nin Chan, Roberto Sierra, and Mark Applebaum. In January 2009 the quartet premiered a new work composed for it by John Adams. It has released recordings of works by Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Golijov. Also passionate educators, the members of the St. Lawrence have together served as Ensemble-in-Residence at Stanford University since 1998.
