Friday was an exciting day at Music@Menlo, featuring the festival debut of pianist Jon Kimura Parker (affectionately known as Jackie) and the return of violist Paul Neubauer and violinist Elmar Oliveira. The evening featured a thrilling concert, highlighting the Gypsy influences in Johannes Brahms’s music, as well as those influences in the music of Haydn, Ravel, Dvořák and others. The evening also included another exceptional Prelude Performance featuring two seminal works of Johannes Brahms: the F Major String Quintet and the e minor Cello Sonata. During the day, the Orion String Quartet offered a wonderfully informative and educational Master Class.
Saturday is a busy day for the Chamber Music Institute. The day will feature the season’s second Koret Young Performers Concert (1:00 p.m., The Center For Performing Arts at Menlo-Atherton) as well as a Prelude Performances (6:00 pm, The Center for Performing Arts at Menlo-Atherton).
