On Saturday, July 25, Music@Menlo welcomes the community to a daylong series of events on the campus of Menlo School, offering visitors a special opportunity to discover the inner workings of the festival.
The day begins with a Q & A Coffee at 8:30 a.m. with the Artistic Directors. Audiences are invited to join David Finckel and Wu Han for their perspective on the festival’s Mendelssohn celebration over bagels and coffee. Open rehearsals (on this day only) allow audiences to observe the making of a musical interpretation, as festival artists prepare for their upcoming performances. The noontime Café Conversation will feature a discussion with 2009 Visual Artist-in-Residence Theo Noll. Workshops and coachings featuring the young artists of the Chamber Music Institute are open to the public throughout the morning, culminating in the afternoon Koret Young Performers Concert (2:00 p.m.) in Martin Family Hall. Encounter III, “The Grand Tour,” led by R. Larry Todd, follows in Martin Family Hall (7:30 p.m., tickets required). In addition to these events, the Open House offers audiences the opportunity to meet fellow music lovers from the festival community in a dynamic and engaging atmosphere. Between events, visitors may explore the area’s restaurants and charming boutiques or stroll the beautiful Menlo School grounds.
