On Saturday, July 26, Music@Menlo welcomes the community to a day-long series of events on the beautiful grounds of Menlo School, offering visitors a special opportunity to get behind the scenes of the festival.
The day begins with the annual Q&A Coffee with Artistic Directors David Finckel and Wu Han at 8:30 a.m. Festival audiences interested in learning about the making of a festival season are invited to join David Finckel and Wu Han as they share their singular perspective on the festival’s sixth season. Open rehearsals (on this day only) allow audiences to observe the making of a performance, as festival artists prepare for their upcoming performances. At the afternoon Café Conversation (12:00 p.m.) in Stent Family Hall, 2008 Visual Artist Doug Glovaski will discuss his work in conversation with Cathy Kimball, Executive Director of the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art. Workshops featuring the young artists of the Chamber Music Institute are open to the public throughout the day, culminating in an evening Koret Young Performers Concert (5:30 p.m., free seat pass required) in Stent Family Hall. Encounter II, led by Michael Steinberg, follows in Martin Family Hall (7:30 p.m., tickets required).
In addition to these events, the Open House offers audiences the opportunity to meet fellow music lovers from the festival community in a casual and spontaneous atmosphere. Between events, visitors may explore the area’s restaurants and boutiques or stroll the beautiful campus of Menlo School.
